Kenyan RnB star Otile Brown has turned down his nomination for the 2020 Afrimma awards.
#3
The ‘Aiyana’ hit maker was nominated for the best male artist for East Africa award, competing against Diamond Platnumz, Khaligraph Jones, Harmonize, Ali Kiba, Rayvanny and Eddy Kenzo among others.
Otile took to Instagram to decline the nomination saying awards do not define his career. He went ahead and said the Afrimma team already has a winner in mind, making it pointless for Otile’s fans to waste their time voting.
He instead asked them to nominate those artists that Afrimma terms as the big shots. Otile requested his fans not to vote for him as awards are not his style;
“Afrimma bado wananinominetingi… Always count me out y’all … nominate hao wasanii wanajiita wanyama.. It’s not my style.My fans, don’t even bother to vote, they already know the winner.”
In a separate post, the ‘Dusuma’ hit maker said he lost hope on award ceremonies when he was once asked to pay for his ticket then he would be sure to bag the award.
“A while back I was called by some award show and guaranteed a win if I paid for my flight expenses to attend the award ceremony..That is when my team and I cancelled story za awards. Some artists do that but I can never do such a thing. I’m true to myself.”
Otille Brown released his first major album ‘just in love’ this year which amassed over 27 million views on YouTube.
