Kanye West recently tweeted that he wants to run for president in 2020. This comes four months before the election and apparently without filing with the Federal Election Commission or creating a campaign committee.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,”
Kanye's Fans immediately tweeted their support for the musician and business mogul, although so far, it doesn't appear like West has any intention of actually running for President.
With the election only four months away, West still needs to register with the Federal Election Commission, present a campaign platform, and collect enough signatures to get on the November ballot. He has already missed the deadline to file as an independent candidate in many states.
It is possible that he could be using this publicity for his upcoming album, "God's Country," and its first single, "Wash Us in the Blood," which was released earlier this week.
Over the past few years, Kanye has gained and lost fans over his vocal support of President Trump, he regularly tweeted his admiration for the President, to a point he put on a red hat "Make America Great Again" and visited the Oval Office.
That said, he recently diverged from the President over the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against police brutality and racial injustice.
However, Kanye would still be President but as an independent candidate, although he still has to acquire the necessary signatures to get on November's ballot. The bad news is for voters in Indiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Texas; the deadline has already passed.
