Ex Tahidi High star Shirleen Wangari popularly known as Shish has landed a new role. She is staring in a post-apocalyptic movie.

The actress is producing the movie, Guatha, which is a slang word meaning 'far away'. A South African production company will shoot the film in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. Shish revealed her role in the movie. The production house is based in three corners of Africa, Ghana in the west, Kenya in the east and South Africa.

"The film is a post-apocalyptic thriller telling the story of a woman surviving at a military camp after losing her son and husband in the worst heatwave ever recorded that kills 80% of the world's population."

The shooting of the movie will begin in 2021 after delays enforced by the Covid-19 pandemic that severely affected South Africa. Shish revealed that she is currently the only Kenyan in the cast, but plans are underway to recruit actors from the country with the film expected to cost millions.

"At present, we have not involved other Kenyans but we definitely will, the idea is to bring great talents of the two countries together and make something epic.

"We have not locked the budget yet, but it is a high budget film because of the post-apocalyptic aspect," she explained.

It is not the first time the Tahidi High actor has ventured into production as she co-produced Wavamizi which received international recognition after being listed in the 2020 Durban Film Mart (DFM) back in September.

Wavamizi translates to Invaders in English telling the saga of the Portuguese occupation of Mombasa and how locals revolted led by the son of a Sultan.

The proof of concept movie shot has now been listed at the Durban Film to get funds for the production of the full film.
