American rapper and actor Earl Simmons, alias DMX died at 50, 5 days after suffering a heart attack.

The rapper who was admitted to White Plains Hospital, north of New York City, was placed on life support and was later pronounced dead last evening, Friday, April 9 2020.

The news of DMX's demise hit the media after his family revealed his passing in a statement. 


"We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days."


"Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him.


"Earl's music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.

"We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.


"Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized."


It is alleged that DMX was earlier admitted to the hospital following an Overdose which led to him being placed on life support days before his death.


Before his death, Simmons' family had shared a statement through People on April 5, which read:

 "On Friday night … our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains hospital, facing serious health issues.

"We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges." He is survived by his fifteen children, four of whom are shared with his former wife Tashera Simmons, who he was married to from 1999 to 2010."


Born in Mount Vernon, New York, in 1970, DMX publicly battled substance abuse for years and spent several rehab periods. It is alleged that the father of 15 also had other health issues, including Bipolar Disorder. 


DMX, aka Dark Man X, was a leading hip-hop performer who collaborated with JAY-Z, Ja Rule and LL Cool J.

The chart-topping artist's songs included Party Up (Up in Here) and X Gon' Give It To Ya.


He also acted on screen, appearing in such films as Cradle 2 the Grave, Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds.
