Hakuna Matata hit maker Teddy Kalanda Harrison has appealed to the public for help in raising funds to cater for surgery.
For the last two years Kalanda, who is one of the founding members of the Them Mushrooms music band, has been confined to a wheelchair and is in dire need of corrective leg surgery.
Kalanda explained that his doctor warned him about the possibility of him suffering paralysis due to his condition;
"The doctor told me I would be paralyzed from my waist to my legs after an x-ray showed that three of my discs had been damaged. I stayed in the hospital for about two months, but I still need to undergo surgery."
Some of Kalanda's hits include Jambo Bwana, Habari Gani? which is what we may call Kenya's tourism anthem. His doctor says and believes he can soon return to full fitness and even walk as he is not that old, but he needs specialized treatment.
That said, Katanda's family is appealing to the Government and well-wishers to help former musicians and athletes who placed Kenya on the map by launching a programme to cater for their needs during their sunset days.
The founding producer of Big Matata Productions said;
"Hakuna Matata is a song that has promoted Kenya internationally. It has also been used a lot in the promotion of tourism around the country."
The musician hopes that he can one day return to the stage and entertain his fans like he used to back in the day.
Get Well Kalanda!
