The Weeknd takes home top artist prize at Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Awards ceremony, which celebrates chart success, was held at the Microsoft Theatre, with Nick Jonas taking the reins as host.

It was at this big event that Canadian musician The Weeknd certainly had a productive night as the Billboard Music Awards were announced in Los Angeles on Sunday night.The singer claimed the biggest prize of the night as he was named top artist - and also won nine other awards.

The Weeknd's awards were presented to the Canadian thanks to his hugely acclaimed chart-topping album After Hours and single Blinding Lights.As well as top artist, The Weeknd,picked up gongs for categories including top Hot 100 song, top Hot 100 artist and top male artist.

The Weekend has been  awarded the top accolade ahead of Drake, Juice World, Pop Smoke and Taylor Swift.

"I do not take this for granted. Thank you," he told the crowd.

His success at the ceremony followed a surprise exclusion at the Grammys after he didn't receive a single nomination at that ceremony.
