Kenyan Script Writer Tony Koros Selected for 2021 Sundance Institute Fellowship!

New York-based Kenyan screenwriter, director and producer Tony Koros has been selected among 15 other screenwriters worldwide to participate in the Sundance Institute 2021 Screenwriters Lab Fellows project.

Tony will be participating alongside other screenwriters such as Insecure Series Producer Natasha Rothwell, Filmmaker Rishi Chandna, Writer and Filmmaker Alyssa Loh, Award-Winning Writer and Director Erica Tremblay and Screenwriter and Novelist Mary Ann Anane etc.

Under this project, the 15 screenwriters will convene digitally for Sundance Institute's January Screenwriters Lab and work together with a group of Creative Advisors to develop 12 original projects. Tony's presentation for this project is his film titled 'Neon Tilapia,' which is about a fisherman in rural Kenya who forms a pact with his estranged granddaughter to fight a dangerous water-weed that threatens to take over his lake and livelihood.

The talented writer has received various film grants such as The 2020 Tribeca Film Institute Sloan, The Cine Qua Non-Lab Fellowship 2020, The Martin E. Segal Production and The 2019 Hollywood Foreign Press Association grants.

Not forgetting over 70 of his short films have been screened on coveted international film festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and Palm Springs International Shortfest among others. Tony's impressive track record has seen him win awards such as The Alexis Prize and The Sembene Prize from Palm Springs International Shortfest and Zanzibar International Film Festival.
