Olympic and World 3000M SC champion Conseslus Kipruto is facing charges in court.
The Olympic steeplechase champion appeared before a Kapsabet Court in Nandi County, where he denied defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Kipruto arrived at the courts at around 11 am. Protesters lined outside, holding placards and chanting while seeking justice. According to the charge sheet, Kipruto defiled a girl aged 15 between October 20th and 21st, 2020, at Tironin village in Mutwot, Nandi County. Appearing before Principal Magistrate D. Ocharo, Kipruto denied the charges and was freed on Ksh200,000 bond.
The court freed Kipruto on bail after the magistrate stated that the runner was ill and had to go to the hospital. The magistrate will mention his case on May 10, 2021.
The athlete drove himself into the law courts in his private vehicle. Wearing a red jacket he hid his face from the media cameras all through, Kipruto denied the charges.
