Kenyan Genge artiste Mejja Genge, popularly known as Okwonko, recently opened up on his life. The musician, through his songs, revealed what his life generally entailed, particularly the times he was supper down and opted for suicide.

Okwonko opened up his suicidal thoughts, intending to try to help those having the same thoughts in an interview with Mzazi; Mejja stated that were it not for his mum, he would have been no more.

"Ilikua ni God coz matha alinikol hio time. I had a knife in the house at that time, ready to stab myself. You just feel some rage that does not make sense. My mother called me at that time asking me where I am and I played along, saying I am okay, but she insisted I tell her where I was. I opened up to her on my suicidal thoughts and she told me to go to where she was immediately."

Regarding discussion, many people took to social media to share their experience, opening up on their attempted suicide thoughts. The artiste further stated that speaking was the only way of dealing with suicidal thoughts on encountering such thoughts or attempts.

"It's the only way to deal with the thoughts. Talk about them; a problem shared is a problem half solved."
